When you wish upon a star
Clancy is probably one of our most beautiful hounds. We were out on the acre this afternoon just hanging and when I looked up, this is what I saw.

The newest double-digit member
Hey Clancy, today you are a proud, card-carrying member of the Double-Digit Gang.
It seems like just yesterday you were that gangly 18-month old puppy coming to stay as our foster.
You are still just as handsome as ever.
Happy 10th birthday Clancy. Here's to many more sunny days.

Tails of a shy dog
Nearly seven years ago Joey joined us at Greyhound Gardens. They called him a spook.
He was afraid of everything. Not because he had ever been abused, his trainer truly loved him, but because that was just the way he was wired.
If he were a child, he would be labeled as autistic I'm sure.
Joey made friends with all of the other greyhounds. He was curious about his new humans, but coming closer than ten feet was just to scary.
He adapted to his own routine in his own little world and that is where he lived without variation.
Somedays, it would take us hours just to get him to come inside. But never, ever would he come up to us to get his ears scratched.
And then, two years ago without any warning, he just couldn't stand it anymore. With the safety of a buddy, he came closer. Soon, the closer was all the way up to us and if we carefully reached over his friend, we could scratch his ears.
Now, seven years later, no matter where we are Joey is there. He even flips our forearms to make sure that he is getting his fair share and more of ear scratches. He has a lot of years to catch up on.
Oh Joey, Joey. You are just one hunk o' hound dog. So glad to know that you think the same of us.

Perfect Fall Day
Today was a perfect fall day. Perfect for the hounds to just hang out on the acre.
A perfect day to just watch the clouds float by.
A perfect day to take a nap.
And a perfect day just to catch a few rays.
Lovin' this fall weather.

The Homecoming
Every night for nearly five nights they watched and
and they waited ever so patiently for me to come home.
The minute I walked in the door in the wee hours of Saturday morning it was a party.
My greeting was incredible. All eyes on me as tails wagged and tongues delivered the sloppiest wet kisses.
To say the least, it feels pretty darn good to be home.
Well almost. I didn't miss the mosquitoes.

Brindle Beauty
Clancy needed some photo love, so out we went with the camera.
Of course, true to Clancy, he wanted ears scratched. A lot.
Keeping his head down to eat the grass was second best.
A few quality sniffs of the air.
And just standing there looking beautiful. No great tales of chase, no goofy looks. Just a brindle beauty.

Clancy's day in the sun

Even though he is gangly and unsteady, Clancy still ran for the backyard with a smile on his face.
He sniffed around a bit in the grass before he was ready to play.
And then all was fare game in toyland. He could still kick up his heals.
He ran for awhile, not really sure which direction he wanted to go first.
He kept going though, just happy to have the grass tickling his toes.
Nothin' felt better than laying in the cool shade of the plum tree.

The Post Report

How do you know when you've had too much to eat on Thanksgiving?

You can't lift your head off of the pillow.

You stare blankly into space repeating over and over "I can't believe I ate the whole thing."

It takes four cushions just to support you.

And only the bravest of the brave – part 3

Brace yourself and keep your distance.

Sneak up from behind, it's always the safest place to be.

Be ready to attack back.

Slowly walk around, never take your eyes away.

Sticking your tongue out at it is always effective.

Closing your eyes and pretending it isn't there is even better.

And if you are brave, look it straight in the eye.

Never let 'em see your fear.

But if you must, run to the momma for protection. Knocking her on her butt will certainly keep you safe.

but just remember, it is all about trick or treat. TRICK!
The end.
