Is this just a greyhound thing?

I love watching our dogs sleep. Maybe it is like watching babies sleep, but I don't think I just watched my daughters sleep.

More times than not, I will see the greys tuck their noses under their front paws. I have to wonder, do other breeds with longer noses do this too?

On the run

Catch me if you can. Or, get out of my way.

According to Flo

Saturday nights are so boring at our house.

She read this post from BZ Training from her golden boys to Slinky.

Flo would like to know what their Saturday nights are like.

Doe-eyed Slinky, Greyhound fair
Fleeter than the running hare
To the south, a Golden pair
Are smitten by your beauty, rare

Though they run not near as fast
(And their sleeping does not last)
This just means you'll not be passed
When you race on by, full blast

Sleepless in Salem

So this is Megan, she's my oldest daughter. She prepared me for last night. As a baby, she was a screamer. She screamed until 2, 3 and 4 am every night.

Normally, I can sleep through a freight train coming through the living room, but last night...

This Barney. As a foster dog, he slept on the twin bed beside my bed every night. Apparently his family weren't pushovers like me, because he hasn't offered to get on the bed since his return.

My bed is a small queen, perfect for one human, one hound. And most nights, they take turns, I never sleep with the same dog. (I know, I know I'm a floozy).

Last night, Barney planted his butt in my bed, rolled over on his side and never moved muscle.

This is Flo, she doesn't know no. If she wants it, it's hers, if she might want it, it's hers. Even if she doesn't want it, it's hers.

She's one of our smaller dogs, but she likes the WHOLE bed and nothing less. She lays down on top of me until the weight of her body (or a flippin' hot flash) moves me over to six inches on the edge. When it is her turn, I frequently wake up hanging on for dear life.

Last night, she decided it was her turn and she plopped down on the other side me.

At least with Barney on one side, I knew I was safe from the edge. The down side were the binding covers the two of them held down over me. Adjusting my position was going to be difficult.

Ya' all know Flocko. He also wanted to sleep with me last night. When he draped his body over my legs that I knew beauty sleep was not in my future.

I figured one night on the couch was not going to kill me.

Jillian however, has gained permanent custody of the couch and even though she is another small female, she can stretch her body out over at least two thirds of it.
I managed a corner for my head and dangled my legs off of the edge. This was questionable quality beauty sleep at this point.

Flocko discovered I had exited stage left and moved to the cushion beside me on the floor. Flo discovered my disappearance and immediately wanted to be on the couch with me.

I quickly snagged my position back in bed and Barney and slept peacefully for the next few hours.

The end.

No sleep tonight either, it's the blog hop! Won't you join us?

Two by two

It's official, we're lining up for the arc. I don't think there has ever been this much standing water for this long on the acre.

And what's worse, there is NO end in sight. White dogs have a permanent mud speckle on their legs, rugs, well, I am not even going there.

Oh the price we pay to be green.

Rainy days

Make for a great romp in the yard.

I am, however, ready for a break in the clouds.

Figure it out before

Seriously Flo, you were comfy on the couch when I went to bed last night. You slept with the night before, the night before that and the night before that.

Yes Flocko, it was your turn to sleep with me last night.

But tonight, I wish you two would figure out who has the bed. Three of us in the bed is one too many.

I had more than necessary hot flashes. I hardly had any room. We're not even going to talk about the covers.

So please, discuss it now. Make an adult dog decision. I love you both. You are both welcome on the bed, just not at the same time.

50 miles

We only live 50 miles from the Pacific coast, and yet as I look back, it has almost been a year since we have been out there.

Next sunny Saturday... I think it is time for a road trip.

The doghouse is that way

Our field trip today lasted a little bit longer than we expected, dinner wasn't on time.

We were quickly forgiven, but they wanted to make sure that we knew we screwed up. Oops.

White dog/Brown dog

We are currently experiencing what is fondly referred to as a pineapple express. Lots and lots of warm, balmy rains.

Good news—it isn't bad being outside. Bad news—the acre is a swamp.

When ever the rains slowed down a bit today, we'd head out to let the dogs play. For most of them, it wasn't bad. They really wanted nothing to do with the swamp for fear they would melt because they are so sweet.

Flo, on the other hand was completely ready to get down and dirty.

Really dirty.

She had muddy water flying every where.

And I fear that by the time we finally drug her away from her ball,

She looked nothing like the white dog we started out with.

Flo and the silver slipper

It was just one of those days.

A real yawner for sure. One mom at the computer, the other taking a happy nappy.

Now just what is a bored greyhound to do?

Find the shoe that was kicked to the ground beside the nappers chair of course!

The oh so disappointing fact of the matter however, the silver slipper is not made of tasty, chewable leather, but rather a plastic gardening Birkenstock. Bleh.

And besides, what fun is there in chewing on a shoe when the whole thing is being photographed?

Perhaps a better use of time would be the Saturday Pet Blog Hop

Flight of the Flo

It was rabbit season in the gardens and that is always a joyous occasion.

Some days the stuffy bunnies survive. Other days, well that is a tale for another day.

Flo loves the feel of the wind in her ears and that rabbit was holding her back.

Once that rabbit was history, Flo started flying around the yard.

I hold my breath every time she runs, totally worried about both her broken hock and the hock that isn't broken.

She doesn't seem worried about and she really doesn't care that I'm worried, 'cause once she starts to fly, there is no stopping her.

Yo Ho Flo Ho

Yo ho ho and a bottle Flo. Go figure that yer birfday would be on International Talk Like a Pirate Day.

So glad to see that your peg leg doesn't hold you back, not one little bit. You still chase around like a maniac. :o)))

And Flo, just for the record, a little less sass this next year would be much appreciated. :o)))

Happy 7th birthday Flo Ho!

Remember when

Remember before the rains when the sun was warm and we could lay in the grass all day and just smell the smells?

Ya well, there was also a time when you could buy two dog cookies for a penny!

Yup, the seasons are a changing.

Happy Dance

Mom is supposed to be home. If she's not, something drastically went wrong.

Everyone, including the mamas are doing the happy dance.

Oh woe is Flo

Houston, we have a problem here.

To know Flo is to love Flo, and everything about Flo. This includes her belief that what's hers is hers, what's yours is hers and if she wants it, it's hers.

She always gets what she wants and was mildly surprised when Jori didn't just give in to her.

She laid down on Jori's bed. She is famous for this, on most days the comfy dog will get up and move. Usually they move grumbling just a bit under their breath.

This time Jori didn't move, she lifted her head and looked Flo right in the eye.

And then, she laid right back down barely moving a muscle.

Flo could not believe it. She rested beside Jori for a few moments and moved to a less crowded cushion.

My Bed Buddy

This is my bed buddy Flo.

On a normal night, she stretches out over most of the bed and if I'm really lucky, I will wake up with about six inches of bed left for me on the edge.

This morning she didn't bounce out of bed like she normally does. We knew something was up and it was clear she wasn't feeling well.

We took her into the vet clinic at 8 this morning. Nothing significant on exam except a slightly elevated temp. They x-rayed her from stem to stern and again nothing significant showed up. Tomorrow we will have the blood and urine results back.

She's really feeling punk tonight, here's to hoping it is either the puppy flu or something we can fix with a pill.

Flo on the Go

I celebrated a lazy, rainy day today. I didn't even leave the house.

Flo wanted to play. She grabbed her toy and was off.

Flo loves to run with her toys.

The kid will race with the wind for... 30 sec.
