A busy day for the greyhounds

It was a totally rockin' day around here as we begin the first official day of summer. The greyhounds spent the day practicing for their summer events.

Talley is doing a whole body twist, maintaining as much body as possible touching the grass.

Danny is demonstrating flattened dog camoflage trick. It was tough for Danny to even open his eyes.

Jillian was probably the most ambitious with her twist and kick.

And Jori was stretching out for maximum comfort.

While they are practicing for summer, we can spend the day at the Pet Blog Hop.

Please join us, it's simple.

Good golly Miss Molly

A few weeks ago, the garden hounds got a care package from greyhound Molly and her momma Debby. It included some treats, a few toys and a couple of bones. Apparently, Molly is chew challenged.

I can't begin to thank Debby enough for the care package, it has been a HUGE hit amongst the houndie dogs. The bone is passed from one hound to the next and they chew away. And the treats, sometimes I worry that I'm going to lose a finger because they are so anxious to snatch them from my hands.

So I'm sending a huge shout out to Molly and Debby, THANK YOU, we really love the care package.

Brown eyes

'Twas a very long day.

Hmmmm

I love spring. After all of the winter rain (and current spring rain), we have a million flowers that just come up on their own. One fruit tree after another blooms. Every year, these pretty little purple flowers grow everywhere.

Talley was out sniffing around Sunday morning.

Clearly, the pretty little purple flowers must not smell very good.

I guess next year we are expected to plant something that is more enjoyable.

'Twas an ear-ie night

A study in dyptychs. White and red brindle.

Fawn.

I guess with all of the spring-like noises, everyone was on ear alert.

Nose to the ground

No rain today! No rain today! No blue sky or sun, but at least it was dry.

Minnie and Talley were finally able to get their noses to the ground and get their sniffers working again.

Oh, and Bunny, if you are listening, Flocko is working extra hard in the beefcake department just for you.

Break time

Every day without fail, I go home during my lunch break to let the houndy dogs out.

Today, for the first time in weeks it wasn't raining. The ground is still soaked, but everyone seemed to enjoy the little longer, a little more quality time for their noon time run.

I see dog bones in your future

Oh, I'm gonna have fun with this crystal ball.

Storm warning

All week they have promised us snow. Yippee! Snow dogs, snow dog pictures, no mud, campus closed.

Yes, we all waited in anticipation for lots of snow. The forecast went from an advisory, to a storm watch, to a storm warning.

And it's snowing!

Just wait until you see what happened.

It's official

I'm going to change the name of this blog from Itsa greyt day to My dogs crack me up.

With a household run by hounds, or gone to the dogs, we have many routines in place. Everyone's favorite after romping through mud puddles is the evening when we retire in front of the TV for a couple of hours.

Now, it is every dog for himself and if you want a front row cushion or the couch, you'd better arrive in the living room early.

Saturday night as I was moving my important things into the living room, the laptop, iPhone and tea I looked down to see that Talley floofed and fluffed her cushion.

Guess my girlfriend required a pillow.

Totally important job

It's Sunday, Talley has a high ranking, very important job that she must do.

You see, the girls in our family can be very, very finicky. Their kibble has to mixed in a certain way, or they will show us. They'll starve to death. They'll get skinny. They'll show their ribs.

The boys always eat, but those darn girls.

One of their favorite delicacies is the roasted chicken from Costco. They know when we go to Costco and believe me, they expect a chicken.

Karen takes some time after we get it home and picks the chicken clean.

Talley used to be a very shy girl. When she'd sneak around and peak into the kitchen, Karen would offer her a morsel hoping to bring her around.

Now, every Sunday afternoon, it is Talley's official job to taste test the chicken. She must make sure that it is safe for the other ladies.

Ever so gently she reaches up and takes the chicken from Karen's hand.

I don't think she is so shy anymore.

The forest sprites

Seriously girls, we have an acre of grass. I just mopped the floors. Must you all just stand in the mud?

Single-file frolicking

For our greyhounds, playing in the rain is just absurd, unconscionable, intolerable.

However, during a sun break, the squishy mud between the toes is delightful.

Bring it on.

Preparing for the feast

"It went that way! The squirrel went that way."

And the race was on. Nothing like a little fresh squirrel meat to be thankful for.

Slinky spotted it's location first. Eye on the prize.

Not to be out done, her twin sister Jillian was right there with her.

Of course, Blender was the smart one. She wasn't foolish enough to be out in the cold, instead she remained close to her bowl. Waiting for the feast to begin.

The hounds of Greyhound Gardens would like to wish every one a very Happy Thanksgiving.

Holiday or not, the greyhounds had us up at the crack of dawn. We still have freezing temperatures and they were only interested in a quick run and breakfast.

Looking to the east, Karen and I scrambled out the door so that we could enjoy the sunrise.

I have much to be thankful for.

Our dogs, they rock my world. My partner that indulges me everyday. My friends, many of whom are connected through the greyhounds, one way or another.

Sound the alarms!

Something has happened to the back yard.

It's cold, it's all over the place.

It doesn't smell like anything good to eat.

And everywhere we go, we find more.

Who wants to lay down and warm up in the sun now?

Oh the weather outside is frightful

But the couch is so delightful.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.
