Rustastic

Twas quite the dreary and rainy day, Saturday's adventure never had a destination, it was a drive into Polk County to see what we could see. We headed towards Fall City and back up to Black Rock. The abandoned house that had been such a treasure just one year ago was now in the process of being gutted out and torn down. The only thing that remained were the daisies in the window sill, with a few new cob webs.

Always on the look-out for old cars in the fields, we found two. Note to self: work on courage to knock on someone's door and ask to go out in their fields.

On our way through Independence, we drove past an old junkyard, somewhat of a paradise for rust.

This one is anybody's guest, something from the 1930s? Buick, Ford?

A Buick Eight Super, roughly 1946 back and

the front.

And last, but not least a Plymouth Special Deluxe, roughly 1949 still with it's great hood ornament intact.

Tis Friday once again

Technically that doesn't mean anything to us, but for the mommas...
  1. The alarm doesn't go off at 3:30 am
  2. Their morning coffee seems to last a whole lot longer
  3. Somebody will most likely get to go on an adventure
  4. It's hard to find an empty cushion because all of the hound dogs are camped out
  5. Our meals aren't quite as timely, especially in the mornings. Sometimes the mommas are a little to relaxed

What's a guy gotta do

To get into the blankety blank spotlight?

All week its been Flo went here, Flo went there, Flo got sand and wind and pictures, pictures, pictures.

Not looking at the camera now. Favoritism has clearly been shown.

What's that? A cookie?

Greyt Getaways • Flo gets sand in her toes

Ready for the beach, Flo led the way.

She enjoyed the new sights and sounds. Seagulls, dogs off leash and the surf.

She was completely curious, but never afraid.

She was quite pleased with herself as she strolled in the cool wet sand.

Flo had a grand time on the beach and slept the entire way home.

Greyt Getaways • Strawberry Hill

Next stop on our Saturday Getaway, Strawberry Hill, just south of Waldport.

The tide was low and the seals were sunning on the rocks. Somewhere in between the coast and the bridge, the fog lifted and it became a beautiful day.

The waves crashed against the rocks and the seals seemed to take it all in stride.

And when it was time to go, this little gave us a high five and wished us a safe journey.

Greyt Getaways • Hayden Covered Bridge

When we left Salem, the sun was shining, about 50 miles later, the fog had settled in. We took a turn onto a road that we had never traveled before and finding a new covered bridge was a complete surprise.

Barns lined each side of the bridge. The larger of the two had definitely seen better days.

For miles, the Alsea River was lined with empty boat trailers. Rumor on the river, they were fishin' for steelhead.

Built in 1918, the Hayden Bridge is one of the older covered bridges in Oregon. Spanning 91' it is the last remaining covered bridge spanning the Alsea River.

Flo wandered around for awhile, but like all of the other greyhounds, quickly grew bored with the covered bridge scene.

Ready to hit the beach, she walked down the road to car.

This was the last thing we saw before we left Hayden Bridge.

A low profile

Wow, did you see those skies tonight?

They were pretty amazing. Momma K caught the perfect picture.

I didn't like them, they were so scary.

I'm keeping a low profile.

Know what?

Wanna know what today is?

Come on, just take a guess.

It's finally Friday. Thank dog. Even with Monday being a holiday, this has got to be one of the longest weeks ever.

Woo hoo! Let the road trips begin.

Is there a chiropractor in the house?

Talley, are you awake?

Talley, how on earth can you be comfortable?

You have a whole big cushion to lay down on, wouldn't you be more comfortable if you stretched out?

Well ok Talley girl, if you insist.

Every Night Flocko

Donning his personal protective gear, Flocko is ready for his nightly ritual.

With spotlight in hand, the other mother throws the ball into the darkness and he's off.

Neither rain nor hail nor sleet nor snow nor dark of night

nor muck of yard shall keep this boy from playing ball.

From fence to fence the spotlight chases him around the yard.

If the ball gets stuck in a water trap, a paw every so gently guides it out.

Sometimes the splash is as much fun as playing with the ball.

Of course, the fence isn't always safe from the muck.

And neither are the belly and the legs.
