Back in the day

Greyhound Gardens was sort of a Grand Greyhound Station. We were a revolving door for hounds as they found their forever families. I loved that time, and I loved every greyhound that crossed our threshold.

Some of them managed to wrap their paws around our hearts more than others. This is Barbie. She was a broodie and was absolutely the sweetest dog. Week after week we would show her to families and there just was never a bond. Secretly, I was relieved, she could have become a garden hound. In October 2004, four months after she joined us, we found the better than perfect family.

Don and Jody loved Barbie and Barbie adored them. Sweet Barbie went to the rainbow bridge much too soon, but we still keep in contact (Hi Don and Jody).

I'm sure you all recognize this bluetiful hound boy. Yes, my Danny Bleu was one of those failed fosters. Well sort of. The minute Danny and I laid eyes on each other, we were one.

I spoiled him totally rotten from the very beginning, no body else would have wanted him.

We didn't know it, but Barbie was Danny's momma. It wasn't until around the time she went to live with Don and Jody that we discovered the connection.

Stay tuned, more tails to come.

Hark spring!

Where art thou?

Freezing weather is unreasonable. It is nearly March. Bring on the balmy spring days.

Storm warning continued

As promised, the snow came. 24 hours later than predicted. The flakes were big and fluffy, there was wind. We were prepared to be snowed in for months (aka lots of full kibble bags).

And then, only minutes later, the snow completely disappeared. The sun came out. It didn't warm up any, but the white fluffy stuff we were so looking forward to was gone. All gone.

Welcome to Oregon.

Time to join the Pet Blog Hop.

Storm warning

All week they have promised us snow. Yippee! Snow dogs, snow dog pictures, no mud, campus closed.

Yes, we all waited in anticipation for lots of snow. The forecast went from an advisory, to a storm watch, to a storm warning.

And it's snowing!

Just wait until you see what happened.

Almost

We are running an ad campaign at work. One of the ads included this photo of Murphy. It was going to run in all of the regional newspapers. Murphy was almost a star until at the last minute it got pulled. We're talking already at the papers almost.

Sigh. Don't worry Murph, you'll always be a star in my eyes.

Flocko doggo

You know you are the love of my life. You know you get away with murder. But you wanna know what? Waking me up at 4:15 am when I don't technically have to get up until 5:30 am, well that is just rude.

I can live with you getting on my bed. I can accept the fact that you took my top layer of covers off. However, standing on the patio in 36° weather at 4:30 am, think again buddy.

Don't do it tonight, I may not be so happy. I just happen to need my beauty sleep.

Just sayin'.

Maggie

I went up to Portland today to take a portrait of a friend and his pup. I first met Maggie about six years ago when she was nothing more than a tiny ball of fluff. A totally cute ball of fluff I might add.

In 2009, Maggie got her certification with Delta Society to become a therapy dog.

Now, every Monday Maggie goes to "work" with her dad as Pet Partners at Our House of Portland HIV/AIDS residential care facility.

According to her dad, she has quite the following and everyone looks forward to seeing her.

She is so darn cute. She posed and posed as I took close to a million pictures (at least I think that is what Alan and Maggie thought).

She rarely took her eyes off of Alan, he rocks her world. That little dog really loves her dad.

She was getting pretty tired of me snapping all of those pictures. I had to laugh as she acquired this cute little sneer at the end. She was gently telling me that she was certain I had captured her cuteness.

Woo hoo! It's time for the Pet Blog Hop.

Snack Attack

Not really. But I do have a couple of greyhounds drooling right now.

Last August we took a hike at Finley Wildlife Refuge, this was all the wildlife we saw.

He sure was a cute little guy though.

50 miles

We only live 50 miles from the Pacific coast, and yet as I look back, it has almost been a year since we have been out there.

Next sunny Saturday... I think it is time for a road trip.

I've been fired

Oh dear, the council of the hounds met tonight. I'm done. I've been fired.

Every year I do a calender, and ever so carefully I mark everybody's birthday down so that I don't miss a birthday.

I have a million good excuses, in my mind it is still 2010. I didn't change the calender to February until last night.

And it wasn't until that very moment I realized that we missed Jori's birthday.

Jori's 11th birthday!

How could I do this to such a sweet, sweet girl.

How could she possibly be 11 years old already? She's been with us since she was 18 months old. Somebody please tell me, where has the time gone?

Happy birthday Jori!

In honor of the big game

Had to go through the archives to find this, I took it in 2004. Wow, so much has changed since then.

Including Skirvee's not so black mask now.

Got snacks?

It's all about the food chain don't ya know.

We went to the Oregon Zoo today. Next to the sea otters, I love the big cats best.

Rabbit season

It's no secret that our greyhounds love their babies. They especially love their babies when they get to take them outside to play.

It's also no secret, that on any given day, a baby can go from perfect to fluff in 30 seconds or less.

I would never deny our pups the delight they receive flying around the backyard, with a baby in their mouth, they get such a kick out of this.

We have a best known secret to keeping the babies flying with the hounds.

We circle through the Goodwill stuffed animal departments. They are cheap, always in great condition and the hounds love them.

And now, as we approach Easter, the rabbits are multiplying like crazy on the shelves.

Rabbits are the best, especially with big floppy ears to play tug o' war with, grab and run, or just flop in the wind.

It's time to for the Saturday Pet Blog Hop.

It's grey dog day!

And yep, the grey dog saw his shadow. Guess we aren't done with winter yet.

That case of spring fever was premature.
