How to take your dogs picture
Step 1: Invite your doggie in and ask them to have a seat.
Step 2: Have a candid conversation with your doggie about cooperation. Ask them if this is really the picture they would like in the Christmas card. Most of them are pretty vain and will look at the birdie at this point.
Step 3: Sometimes you have give the doggie a detailed description of how you would like them to cooperate. Explain to them that although this pose is beautiful, it probably is not Christmas card material.
Step 4: Praise doggie when they start to get the look you would like. Head up, ears up, eyes bright. These are all good things.
Step 5: Of course, once doggie starts to cooperate, it is really important that the nut behind the wheel knows what they are doing.
Step 6: Family portraits are always nice. But, people will wonder why the house is tipping to one end. See Step 5 about the nut behind the wheel.
Step 7: Have a cookie in your pocket for the cooperating dog and the nut behind the wheel when they both get right.

The Post Report
How do you know when you've had too much to eat on Thanksgiving?
You can't lift your head off of the pillow.
You stare blankly into space repeating over and over "I can't believe I ate the whole thing."
It takes four cushions just to support you.

The pissed-off puppy
It wasn't enough that our vet came out and gave everyone their vaccinations (thank you Dr. Mills), but poor Blender started limping yesterday and sure enough, another toe is swollen.
X-rays clean, phew, we'll try antibiotics and hope they do the trick.

After Dark
Eric is the editor of the monthly newspaper here and asked if I would help with a photo for one of his stories. Game for anything, I said sure.
The theme was Salem Noir and Eric appeared out of the shadows decked out in a trench coat and fedora.
Pausing for a moment, he lit up...
and continued to wait patiently.
It was at this point that Karen pointed out that an "Officer of the Law" was approaching.
Why would anyone question some guy lurking in the shadows and two crazy women, one holding a flash and the other standing behind a tripod barking orders? He was quite nice, apparently the woman in the apartment above us was upset about the flash. He smiled and just asked us to wrap up soon and was on his way.
So Eric continued to lurk in the shadows.
And then as if stepping back in time, he tipped his hat and the flung the jacket over his shoulders to step back into his role as the daily reporter.
Love ya Eric, thanks for the adventure.

The Prince and the Pea
The couch has clearly been claimed as a favorite, but there is only one couch and on the best days we can get two dogs and one human on there.
So the next coveted spot in the house? The double cushion. The pups that aren't fast enough sleep with one eye open just waiting for the double cushion dog to move. Once they do, they're up in a flash and moving in.
Who needs stand-up comedy when you've got greyhounds.

The pocket pickers
It isn't unusual for me to walk around the house with a pocketful of cookies. It even used to be safe.
Now, they know the silent sound of... the cookie jar lid.
And they line up. They don't line up to gently take a cookie from our hand, but they follow us around the house. Poised and ready.
Carefully at first, the nose brushes by a hand and ever so gently, hoping to go unnoticed it slips into the pocket.
Then, throwing caution to the wind the nose goes after the feast realizing at this point it is much better to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission.
Flo immediately eyes her target.
Not wanting to waste even a minute, she dives in going straight for the treasure.

Weather 32°, Sunny
Distance 33 milesLet me tell you about my mothers. I'm thinkin' I might just trade them in.
Sure I look forward to my adventures, but I like my weather a tiche warmer. Just because it is warmer where we live, it's different in the mountains. I think the snow on the ground was our first clue.
Wasn't so bad once we got down to the trailhead, no snow... but when the almost outta gas light went on? Visions of hiking 15 miles to civilization made me really nervous. Checked the iPhone, nope, no service. People around us? Nope. Did I have winter wear, you know boots, hats, mittens? Nope.
So maybe this waterfall was beautiful to them, I was worried about getting my skinny butt back to the warmth of my cushion. We made it to the gas station, the moms got lucky, but they had better be a little more aware of that gas guage for the next adventure!
What can I say? Just another beautiful day in Oregon.

Sun up to sun down
Wake-up time around this joint on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays is 4 am. On Tuesdays and Thursdays we're rolling our butts outta bed at 5 am.
Begrudgingly, the dogs file out the door to take care of business. So wouldn't you think that on the week-ends they would enjoy sleeping in just a little later? Nope.
At 5:15 am this morning when I was ready to sell all of them on Craigslist I saw stars. Lots of stars in the sky.
Grab the camera woman and get the coffee in the to go cups, we're off to see the sunrise.
Just five minutes from the house... doesn't get much better than this.
And then, the evening comes. All the dogs find their favorite place to nest including the snugglable Flo.
Nope, it just doesn't get much better than this.
